Sited in central Santa Ana is this well-renovated 1955
Palmer & Krisel-designed corner-lot home which has recently hit the market.
With a small, proportional addition this home has been expanded from an
original 1,200 square feet to 1,392 square feet, includes three bedrooms, two
bathrooms, a detached two car garage and an in-ground pool and spa with an
asking price of $485,000.

The Santa Ana Palmer & Krisel-designed homes are the
same models as found in Pomona’s Valwood Estates, built at nearly the same time
in 1955. This particular home is one of the most well-thought out renovations
we have seen so far of either the Santa Ana or Pomona Krisel homes. The front
yard is surrounded with a combination slump block and horizontal wood fence,
enclosing a mainly grassy yard area. The exterior of the home maintains its
original lines, with the exception of the proportional addition, which was
molded in the style of the home.

Inside, the living room sits at the rear of the home, while
the kitchen and dining sit at the side. The open, beamed celotex ceilings are
still intact and in place, have naturally-stained beams and are complimented by
matching stained hardwood floors. The original cut stone fireplace is still
intact in the living room, and appears to be in great condition.

Dining and addition viewed from kitchen |
The kitchen has been opened to the living and dining rooms, and
features sharp, semi-gloss grey cabinetry with stainless steel appliances and
granite countertops. The original clerestories on the ends of the home are
still intact, allowing for lots of natural light to flow into the kitchen and
living areas. The dining area sits towards the front of the home, and opens to
both the kitchen and the addition which is currently utilized as an office.

The addition maintains the same proportions of the home,
including the open beamed celotex ceiling matching the rest of the home and
floor-to-ceiling windows. The three bedrooms are generally in their original
configurations, with the bedrooms on the ends of the home maintaining their
original clerestories and all featuring their original vaulted ceilings.

Both
bathrooms have been updated with clean, modern fixtures and details. The tub
and shower surrounds use an attractive geometric patterned tile surround, while
the walls of the bathrooms are finished in high-gloss white tile.

Pool and spa |
The backyard contains a covered concrete patio accessed off
of the living room. The large pool and spa occupy a majority of the rear yard,
and the pool includes a diving board and water slide. The rest of the yard is
mainly hardscaped, with the exception of some small planters at the corners of
the yard.
This is very well-done contemporary renovation of a classic
Palmer & Krisel home that is livable, attractive and appropriate.
