Built in northern La Mirada is this 1956 Palmer &
Krisel-designed home that has been on the market for the past week. With four
bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,500 square feet, a two car garage and a long,
linear building orientation on a 6,800 square-foot lot, the asking price on
this home is $575,000.

The front of this midcentury modern home features a
relatively recently xeric-scaped front yard, with low water use shrubs and
mulch replacing the front lawn. The home is oriented long an linear on the lot,
with the bedrooms located at the front of the property, the front door at the
center, and the living areas and detached garage at the rear. The exterior is
mainly stucco, with a central stone accent on the front of the property.

Inside, the bedrooms sit on the north side of the home while
the kitchen, living and dining areas all sit along the south side of the home. The
entry sits at the middle of the home, and opens up through an overly ornate
traditional leaded-glass door into a small foyer which leads into the living
area. The living room extends to the back of the home, and features a compact corner
fireplace covered in cut stonework.

The kitchen has been opened up to the living room with an
open bar, and a portion of the original hallway has been removed to open the
kitchen and breakfast room up. The kitchen cherry shaker-style cabinetry,
granite counters and stainless steel appliances. A mosaic tile backsplash sits
behind a portion of the kitchen counters, but not all.

Both bathrooms have been renovated in a style very similar
to that of the kitchen, with cherry shaker-style cabinetry, granite counters
and mosaic backsplashes. Floor tile is used in the shower surrounds, and both
feature stone floors. The bedrooms are still in their original layouts, and are
tiled in wood-look ceramic tiles.

Backyard as viewed through fish-eye lens from inside |
Due to the way the home and garage sit on lot, the backyard
is essentially a large patio, with a small deck, concrete patio and vine
covered walls. The rest of the yard consists of a small planter area. This home
could use an influx of modern to take it back to its modernist roots, but is relatively
clean and move-in ready as-is.
