Built by Dunas, Greene & Swidler is this 1954 Palmer
& Krisel-designed midcentury modern home in the neighborhood of Bermuda Woods in Reseda, CA relatively new to
the market. With four bedrooms and two baths, this 1,296 square-foot home sits
on a 7,700 square-foot lot and carries an asking price of $455,000.

The exterior of the home has been modified over the years,
with white vinyl replacement windows on the front of the home, a
traditionally-styled front door, and a chunky, unwelcoming combination block
and wrought iron fence and wall along the front property line of the home. The
front landscape has been converted to maximize water conservation, with minimal
planting and bark mulch used as a large-scale ground cover.

Living room |
This four bedroom home features the kitchen and a den/fourth
bedroom to the west of the entry, the living and dining rooms at the rear of
the home, and the three remaining bedrooms to the east of the entry. The living
room maintains the original open beamed vaulted celotex ceilings, and overlooks
the backyard through reduced-height mullioned white vinyl windows. The original
fireplace is still in place; however its signature modernist lines have been
reduced with a beige tiled surround.

Kitchen |
The dining room sits open to the living and kitchen, and is
anchored by a fun sputnik globe light fixture. The kitchen has been partially
opened to the living room, showcasing its raised-panel cabinetry with
oddly-placed pulls and beige tiled countertops to all those who enter the
living room. Original clerestory windows which would have filled the kitchen
and dining room with natural light have been removed and drywalled over,
leaving the space above the cabinetry blank and characterless.

Den/master bedroom |
The bedrooms are all in their original configurations, and
have all been floored in very dark wavy laminate flooring. The den adjacent to
the kitchen features its own bath, making it ideal for use as a master. The
guest bath has been updated in the same style as the kitchen, with beige floor
tiles utilized for the tub surround and raised panel cabinetry on the vanity.

Backyard and back of home |
The backyard is large, grassy and open with a small brick
patio sitting off of the living room. A trellised cover sits in the center of
the brick patio, and a bare patch of yard sits where a recently felled tree
once stood.
There are some great modernist lines underneath all the
updates that this home has seen over the years, and hopefully a new owner will
be able to bring out the best in this property.
